The Government's £860 million Renewable Heat Incentive scheme is expected to increase green capital investment by £4.5 billion up to 2020, stimulating a new market in renewable heat. The number of industrial, commercial and public sector geothermal installations is expected to rise seven-fold by 2020.

It has been estimated that there are 1,550 large industrial sites in the UK where heat-pump systems could be installed, with an average size of 800 kilowatts of thermal power.
